WORKSHOP GRAPHIC SCORE,
during the:
European Mensas Annual Gathering
in Utrecht.
The annual gathering of Mensa in
Europe, was kept, this year in Utrecht,
in the Netherlands.
One of the many activities those days
was the performance of a graphic score,
which was leaded by me.
How much fun we had, that afternoon,
and how hard we worked! But the result
was surprising and very pleasing for as
well the musicians as the audience.

Free Sheet Music?

ALL SHEET MUSIC FREE FROM NOW ON?
Well, no, not everything.
I haven't made PDF's from all my music yet, therefore you will find much music
on my site which is not yet available.
But I'm working on it, I'm sure planning to make PDF's of all my sheet music.
Why I decided to bring out everything for free is explained in the page:
'The Donation System'.

Solo Guitar

DOLIA
A new piece for solo guitar, for the not yet advanced guitarist.
The name 'Dolia' comes from my Dutch novel 'De verlorenen' (The Lost Ones).
Dolia is the name of the first city Larix visites in the fantasy world Elmontestratia.
Larix sure is amazed by the sight of it, but she worries too much about her little friend,
Gijs, who is lost, therefore she can't really enjoy it.
I quite often get a request for adding a tablature with my music.
Therefore I decided to try it. Dolia is available in two versions: notes or tablature.
Free PDF of 'Dolia'
Free PDF of 'Dolia', notes plus tabs.

Jules Verne played by Two Guitars...

A JOURNEY TO THE INTERIOR OF THE EARTH
I've always loved the books by Jules Verne, so it was a pleasure to use one
of his stories as guide to build my music around.
This is the third guitar duo I composed. This one is a little more difficult than the
other two (The Vlieland Sonata, and the Epipogon Sonata), but I hope the
performers will take the trouble to study the notes and to find the beauty of it.
The character of the music is moderately modern, sometimes following the
story, other times more abstract.
The titles of the parts are:
1 - Iceland
2 - Lost, All Alone Inside the Earth
3 - A Stroll in the Forest of Mushrooms
4 - The Monsters in the Lidenbrock Sea
5 - Safe back again in Hamburg
Free PDF's of all five parts.

New Music and My Score Store...

STRING QUARTET: MATTHIOLA
The string quartet Matthiola is composed around the poem 'Matthiola'.
Matthiola is the name of a garden flower.
The music of Matthiola consists of four pieces:
I - A Purple Summer Night
II - The Blooming String Quartet
III - Singing flowers
IV - Gigue in the Night
The sound is moderately modern.
Matthiola for string quartet is the first piece which I placed on the website
of MyScoreStore.
In future I'm going to put all my sheet music there, but this will take some time.

Concert of the NVvMO

Saturday night, the 13th of October the Dutch Association for Mandolin
Orchestra's did celebrate her 60th anniversary by giving a concert in Gorinchem.
The Big Dutch Mandolin Orchestra (ca. 100 members) played music by
Joh. B. Kok, François Menichetti, Konrad Wölki, Carlo Malizia, Juriaan Andriessen,
Fred Witt, Eduardo Angulo,Hugo Herrmann, and Ernst W. Gest.
Besides the Youth Orchestra (21 members) played a piece I especially composed
for this occasion. The name of this piece is: 'The Smoking Chimney'.
All music was performed under direction of Benny Ludemann.
The musicians of the Youth Orchestra played very well.
A wonderful evening!

New sheet music for Piano

One of the questions I got the most last year was: Can't you compose an easier
work for piano for students? I liked the idea, so here is the result:
SPREEUWENSUITE (Starling Suite) and OOIEVAARSVLUCHT (Flight of the Stark).
The Starling suite is for piano solo.
Who doesn't know the starling? This noisy good-for-nothing, who, like a jolly
vagabond, flutters through fields and cities.
The music is not really difficult to play.
The starling was the favorite bird of the Dutch naturalist Jac. P. Thijsse,
therefore I dedicated this suite to the Heimans and Thijsse Association.
In September this suite did get its first performance by the presentation of the
bronze starling, a Dutch prize for people who inspire the people to take care
for nature, or to take interest in nature. More information about this can be
found by clicking the link above. (Dutch site)
The Flight of the Stark is for piano four hands.
In 'The Flight of the Stark' we follow the way the Stark had to go to bring the
little boy Hugo to his father and his mother in Amsterdam. Hugo learns to
know the beauty of the world, the Stark points him out Antartica, the monkey's
in the woods, the desert, the sea, and finally Holland.

Eurofestival Zupfmusik 2006 - In Bamberg

The European Strum Orchestra Festival of this year is held in the beautiful old
town Bamberg (Germany), the last week of May 2006.
Guitar and Mandolin Orchestra's from all over the world (not only Europe) came
together to let each other hear their music.
The Dutch Mandolin Orchestra 'The Strings'
also joined this festival. They performed my 'l'Artibonite'
the second day of the festival, leaded by
Annemie Hermans.
My husband and I also joined this festival in Bamberg. It was a fantastic
experience to be there, to listen to that many strum orchestra's of a high
level, to walk around in the big music hall, together with more than 2000
guitar and mandolin-lovers. To visit the music-market, to talk to all the
musicians and conductors. For us a highlight of the week was the performance
of my l'Artibonite, but the other music I heared also deep impressed me.

Music for Queen Beatrix

The 11th of November the Dutch Queen Beatrix visited the old and very small church
in 't Woudt. (in the province Zuid-Holland) In the church she listened to music, played
by twelve members of three different brass-bands.
To my happy surprise they had asked me to write the music for this event.
By now both pieces are published and available via the music book page of this website.
1 - Green, green Midden-Delfland
2 - Festival in 't Woudt

Ballet project - TVbeat

"In 2004 I started to join a ballet project in co-operation with the German
painter and composer Uwe Warneke.
Uwe Warneke wrote the story (a modern fairy tale) and part of the music.
My part of the music is i.a. 'Fleur' which won the first prize in a contest, and 'Festival
in 't Woudt', a work which got it's first performance in presence of the Dutch Queen
Beatrix. Uwe and I are very happy with this good start of our Ballet-Project.
You'll hear more about it later...

First Prize - Composition Competition

In September I received the news to have won the first prize in the Composition
Competition, which was part of the 'The 8th International Guitar Festival of Corfu'.
I had sent in a musical work for classical guitar with the title 'Fleur'.
Part of my price is a publication of 'Fleur' by the American publisher 'Clear Note'.
A description of the story behind 'Fleur', the music, the book, and how to order, can
be found on the website of Clear Note."
