Sheet Music (free)
Compositions by Margriet Verbeek
Wouldn't it be great if everything on the internet were free?
But composers, poets and authors need a living too.
A voluntary donation takes care of that...

Guitar and Piano

VLIELAND SONATA
Vlieland is a very small island in the North Sea, to the west of the Dutch Province Friesland.
On this beautiful vacation-island I composed the Vlieland Sonata for two guitars.
The four parts of this Sonata are:
I - Oyster-catchers at the North Sea
II - Seals on a sandy bank
III - Two atalantas at the Dutch Wadden Sea
IV - Parnassias just past the 'Posthuys'.
Although originally composed for two guitars, it is possible to play this sonata with a
guitar and a piano too, for I made an adaptation for piano of the second guitar
part.
Expressive music.
Not difficult.
Sound Example
The sheet music of 'Vlieland Sonata' for two guitars is not yet available.
A free PDF of it will get added in the future.

EPIPOGON SONATA
A four-part sonata for two guitars, the subject is Eli Heimans' quest for a
rare orchid.
The four parts are named:
I - Heading for Harzburg - a ten hour journey.
II - A stroll through the valley.
III - Climbing, searching, and jumping at the foot of the mountain.
IV - The Epipogon found. A pale princess on a dense carpet of moss in the dark fir wood.
Allthough originally composed for two guitars, it is possible to play this sonata with a
guitar and a piano too, for I made an adaptation for piano of the second guitar
part.
Expressive music.
Not difficult.
Sound Example
The sheet music of 'Epipogon Sonata' for two guitars is not yet available.
A free PDF of it will get added in the future.

National Anthems, light classical music and Christmas Carols,

arranged by Margriet Verbeek.

Guitar, Marimba and Harmonium

ENTERING THE MEDIA WORLD
A two-part piece for guitar, marimba and harmonium.
(It also is possible to perform this piece with a guitar and a keyboard.)
This is another work from the ballet TVbeat.
Fairly abstract music.
Sound Example
The sheet music of 'Entering the Media World' is not yet available.
A free PDF of it will get added in the future.

Mandolin and Guitar

PRACTICING CHARMS
(Next Monday's homework for Hogwart's first years)
I composed this short piece for mandolin and guitar in 2004 and dedicated it to the
British Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Federation. Subject of this piece of music is the
magic school of Harry Potter, and the magical homework you can get there.
And yes, you do need a magic wand to play this music, but the sheet music informs you
about this.
You will find the PDF-file of this music below, it is free to print.
This music is a fantasy about Hogwarts, it is NOT the music of the film.
It is possible to play the first part with a violin too, I don't think it will be easy
to play it with other instruments though.

Mandoline, Mandola and Guitar

ANDROCLES AND THE LION
Androcles and the lion is an ancient story about a slave who became friends with a lion.
Finally the lion saves his life.
The mandolin, the mandola and the guitar are telling this story in four parts.
It's also possible to play this piece with a mandolin and two guitars.
18 pages.
Not difficult to moderately difficult.
Sound Example
The sheet music of 'Androcles and the lion' is not yet available.
A free PDF of it will get added in the future.

Mandolin Orchestra

L'ARTIBONITE
A piece for mandolin orchestra.
The guideline for this music is an adventurous walking tour two people made in Haiti.
The music is originaly composed for an orchestra containing:
A solo mandolin, two first mandolins, two second mandolins, two
mandolas, two guitars, mandolon cello, and chitaronne.
The part for the solo-mandolin is rather difficult, but can as well be played by
two mandolinplayers (which makes it easier).
In case your orchestra doesn't possess a mandoloncello, this part can be played by a
guitar as well.
The chitaronne-part can be replaced by a double bass.
l'Artibonite is performed during the European Strum Orchestra
Festival in Bamberg (Germany), in 2006, by mandolin ensemble 'The Strings'.
The sound example below is recordered during that festival.
More about this, plus a photo.
Sound Example - Fourth part: 'Arrested'
The sheet music of 'l'Artibonite' is not yet available.
A free PDF of it will get added in the future.
