Question 1
How can I write notes with my computer, and listen to the music I wrote?

Answer 1
The
staff paper you can print from this website is only meant, to be write on with
pencil or pen.
When you would like to write notes with your computer, then you need a music
notation programm.
After you've downloaded this on your computer you will be able to write notes on
your screen, print it, and listen to the music you wrote, to controle yourself.
Below you will find more information about this.

Question 2
Do you know good music notation software for my computer?

Answer 2
I'm not an expert about this subject, but I use
Finale myself and I'm very satisfied
with it. It has many advanced possibility's, like writing complicate scores and
splitting it afterwards in seperate parts. The language of the programm is English.
Another good programm I heard about is MusiCAD.
This programm is less expensive, easier to learn, and it gives a free experimental
version which you may use as long as you want.
I also found a website with more information about this subject, and plenty other
websites about music notation software: Freebyte.com/music

Question 3
Is it possible to transpose music by computer?

Answer 3
Yes, it sure is possible to let your computer transpose your music.
You need to download a music notation programm in your computer to do this.
For more information about this software, see above.

Question 4
When I try to listen to a wave-file, the music stops after a few seconds.
What can I do to hear the complete music without all those interruptions?

Answer 4
In case the music stammers, stop the music with 'pause' to give your computer
enough time to load the big Wave-file. This might take some minutes.
Click after that the music-link again. (or click 'start' at your recorder)

Question 5
Your website has a favicon. I would like to have one too.
Where can I get one, and how should I put it on my site?

Answer 5
When you ask in Google-images for the word 'favicon', you will find many examples
of small pictures which are suitable to use for your favicon, but ofcourse it is much
more fun to make one yourself. I did too.
How I did it:
With 'Paint' I drew a very small picture, it has to be 16 x 16 pixels.
I saved this picture as: "favicon.gif".
After that I opened this picture with PhotoImpact XL, and saved it again, but this
time as "favicon.ico".
After that I copied next code on each page of my website, somewhere in between
< HEAD > and < /HEAD >
The code you need for it is:
(link rel="shortcut icon" HREF="favicon.ico")
You can copy this out, only: don't forget to replace ( and ) for < and >.

Question 6
Do you often perform your own music?

Answer 6
I hardly ever give a complete concert, but sometimes I play somewhere.
If so, I will mention it on my homepage.

Question 7
I'm planning to play your music on a concert.
Would you want to come to listen to me?

Answer 7
I would love to!
But I get many questions like this, and I'm very busy, so it is well possible I can't
come the day you ask me. Besides: it shouldn't be too far away.
But when you would like to ask me, just
mail me about it, I will at least answer
your mail.

Question 8
Are there cd's with your music, where can I buy them?

Answer 8
Yes, in 2008 I published a cd-album around the subject 'Nature.
More than two hours piano and guitar music, performed by the Dutch
piano player Eddy van der Maarel, and me.
You can read more about it on the site of
Opulus Press.

Question 9
Do you teach composition yourself?

Answer 9
Yes, I have a few composition students.
If you would like to be one of them,
mail me to ask for information.
If I have place for a new student (which mostly will not be the case),
I will ask you to write me about your musical education. I only teach
students who know already something about music theory, counterpoint
and harmony.
Then I will ask you to send me an example of your sheet music.
This will tell me whether I can teach you or not, for when your music
doesn't appeal to me at all, we better don't start.
The costs are: 80 euro per lesson, one lesson each two months.
A lesson consists of:
1 - I give homework. You get about six weeks to make it.
2 - You send me the working out of it. (via snail mail or e-mail by PDF)
3 - I check your work and write a commentary.
4 - We make an apointment to discuss your work. By doing this music theory,
music history, harmony and counterpoint will be part of our discussion.
A lesson like this usually takes around one and a half hours.
In case you live too far away to get a lesson, we can decide to do it by
e-mail (which will not make a different in the costs).
When you don't like my way of teaching, or when I don't have place for a new
student, think about how easy it is to find composers via the internet.
Most composers are willing to teach.

Question 10
I once sent you an e-mail with a question, and you never answered me.

Answer 10
I'm used to answer each mail as soon as possible, but sometimes I lose a mail,
never on purpose though.
How this is possible? When I can't find the time to answer, I will keep the mail
a while, and sometimes I will forget it after that. No, that's not nice. (I'm sorry!)
In case this happened to you: write me again, then I sure will answer you.
There are two other reasons why I shouldn't answer:
The first is: I don't answer rude language or insults, or mail which looks too
much like spam to me.
The second is: I can't answer a mail when you write down the wrong e-mail
address. And believe me: this happens very often! So please, check your mail
address before you send me your mail!

Question 11
I have another question which you didn't answer yet.

Answer 11
That's possible. It doesn't surprise me, the questions above are only the most
frequent questions, of course there are many others which I didn't mention.
